About Inner Wheel

Established in 1924 in Manchester, England, Inner Wheel is a prominent non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to fostering a spirit of true friendship, promoting the ideals of personal service, and nurturing international understanding. With a rich history spanning almost a century, Inner Wheel has evolved into one of the largest women’s service voluntary organizations globally, actively engaged in over 104 countries. Inner Wheel Distrcit 301 is one of them.

History of Inner Wheel District 301

Inner Wheel District 301 has undergone a fascinating evolution to attain its current standing in society, thanks to the dedicated efforts of its industrious members. Originally known as District 310 in the past, its 13 clubs spanned vast regions, reaching from Jammu & Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh to Punjab and Haryana. With the growing momentum of the Inner Wheel movement, the need for expansion led to the creation of District 309. While Mrs. Kanti Manohar led the parent District 310, Mrs. Minna Kapur assumed leadership for the newly established District 309.

What is Inner Wheel?

Margarette Owen, later known as Mrs. Oliver Golding after marrying a Rotarian from Manchester, was born to Welsh parents in Hey-Brecon. Trained as a nurse, she served during the First World War, sparking a profound desire to assist those in need. A capable businesswoman and philanthropist, her primary social focus was the Manchester Girls’ Orphanage & Ancoats Hospital. The Inner Wheel of Manchester, under her guidance, provided and furnished a mortuary chapel for this institution. Additionally, she dedicated herself to the Girl Guide Movement, holding the position of Commissioner.

Personally initiating numerous clubs and districts, Margarette Owen’s inspirational legacy endures. She successfully encouraged members to broaden their perspectives beyond local concerns and contribute to society as a whole. With a vibrant personality and a keen intellect
